Research

I started my career as an undergrad volunteer in the Laboratory of Vertebrate Zoology at the Federal University of Ouro Preto, Brazil. There, I gained experience in comparative anatomy, species identification, fieldwork, organization, and data acquisition and analysis. After graduating, I had the invaluable opportunity of working on the largest collection of reptiles and amphibians in South America at the Museum of Zoology of the University of São Paulo (MZUSP, Brazil). My projects included extensive fieldwork, working with living organisms, and other procedures related to field-oriented research, such as GIS and photography. As a member of the field expedition team of the museum, I had the chance to explore several sites such as the magnificent Amazonian rainforest. During my Masters at the Museum of Zoology of the University of São Paulo, Brazil, I focused my studies on taxonomy and systematics of South American snakes. My Ph.D. project at the University of Toronto, Canada, I wanted to understand the role females play in evolution understanding the genetic traits involved in female behavior and how this behavior can shape the evolution of a species. The final results of my research can be found below.
